help me choose good lock

Postby AdamR77 » 4 Dec 2004 20:00

Hallo,
I'm from Poland and I have a problem with choosing a lock-cylinder.
In Poland we have not many locks you write about - modeco, fichet, corbin emhart, schlage etc.
I was looking in shops and I found those ones: KABA quattro S, EVVA 3KS, EVVA DPI, EVVA Dual, ABUS EC850, KESO 2000, Abloy Disklock Pro, Abloy Protec, ASSA 6000-7000 and that's all.
Most of then are described here: http://www.chez.com/montmartre/autres.html
http://www.abus.de/us/main.asp?ScreenLa ... 3318150005

I realize that there is not unpicable lock but I want to choose quite good not to allow enter my home for thief.
Thanks in advance
Adam

the door are OK. (massive and made of steel) but you don't tell me which lock cylinder to choose. Anyone of them? You are the specialists and you don't see the differences between locks listed above :?:

I think what they were meaning was if you fit any of those locks to your door(s), possibly less than 0.001% of the population of the world will be able to pick any of them open within a reasonable amount of time. I think you'd be pretty safe regarding burglars picking your locks.

Tell me if using this picking tool it is possible to open lock within few minutes or within hours?

I don't remember but I think I read about it on alt.locksmithing group when I was looking about information about good locking cylinders.

There's a lot of BS on alt.locksmithing, from the kiddies as well as from the allmighty wise locksmiths over there. As for your list the Kaba probably has an impressioning problem, Abus EC850 opens very quick with raking in many cases, Keso2000 can be impressioned or picked, Evva DPI is a nice standard pin tumbler but nothing more, ASSA messed it up with the regional sidebar codes. I can't tell you anything about the Abloys as I couldn't get my hand on them yet. As for the Evva 3KS and Dual, they seem to have a similar mechanism. Falle sells a decoder but apart from that I haven't heard about successful openings. They have a slight problem with drill resistance though, so you'd better get a hardened steel lock shield.

But if you just want to protect yourself against thieves most of these should be sufficient. Unless you have a lot of valuables. What kind of attackers do you fear and how much do you need to protect?
It's not the tools that open the lock. It's me.

thanks very much for your help.
I don't have many valuables (if any:)) Just ordinary things like RTV, computer etc. No jewels - only my wife's wedding ring.
In Poland there are many robberies and burglary and I'm going to impede them or stop them at all.

I was looking for waord "Falle" in The New Penguin English Dictionary and OXford Dictionary and I can't find what it means.
Is it some kind of slang? What daes it mean?

Thanks in advance
