What lock is this?

Postby BeeZee » 31 Dec 2020 19:54

Hi all.
Happy New Year!
I am new to lock picking and this forum. I have an old dimple lock that I am unable to open (yet) and I was wondering if anybody knows what it is.
It’s a 45mm dimple padlock with three rows of pins. Three on the left side, six pins on the top left, adjacent to the side pins and 4 bottom pins directly under the upper ones.
The only marking on the body is the number 100000 on the face.
When picking it, I can set some of the pins but there is no discernible movement in the core.
Any help would be appreciated.

Are you in Australia? it often helps to mention where you are from so we can pin point which brand and model lock that is as different locks are availble in the USA/UK/Canada/Australia.

Which kinds of lock pick are you using to try to open that dimple lock? your photos are also very small for some reason..

Thanks

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, I am in Australia. Unfortunately, there are no markings except for the number on the lock.
I tried using standard flag picks at first but because the key way is fairly wide, I made a wider flag pick so it was harder to overset the pins.
I was hoping to find out some detail about the lock because I am not sure if all the pins are active. There is no key to give me any help either.

Not sure what’s wrong with the photo. I had a lot of trouble because I am using an iPad.
Cheers

is the lock red or brick in color or is it just the camera? can you take more photos so we can see the shackle and other features of the lock? hard to ID it just by the keyhole.

The lock is still attached to a metal bracket so it is a bit hard to get a good photo.
It has a weathered copper colour but the body underneath is brass. No other markings unfortunately.

it feels like a Sargent Keso F1 or Kaba Gemini padlock but that color is throwing me off. maybe a generic made in china clone?

Thanks for your help, Squelchtone.
The lock is similar to the Dormakaba, even including the hole in the middle of one edge, but this one has squarer edges and is exactly 45mm wide.
I assumed the hole in the edge was originally covered with a plug that had fallen out but it seems some locks have that hole exposed.
I guess what I was trying to do was get information on the pins. Are they all active and, in particular, how do the top and bottom pins work seeing there is very little body thickness above them to hold driver pins and springs?
What is unusual about this lock is the arrangement of the pins. The top and bottom pins actually touch the side pins, making them difficult to access.

look up Kaba Gemini or Sargent Keso on youtube, there should be some animations and picking videos. these are called dimple pin locks. the pin stacks are very short compared to something like the Lockwood on your front door which is a regular pin tumbler lock.
