Replacement for Schlage B252 deadlatch

Hello,

Happy New year to all of you. I hope you and your loved ones are safe and healthy.

I have a passenger/delivery metal gate (about 3 ft by 6ft) that currently has a Schlage B252 deadlatch on it.

Sadly it was either installed incorrectly or damaged during of after installation and was almost impossible to open with the key (I could not rotate the key the 90 degrees or so needed to open the lock).

I tried the graphite powder etc.

I would like to order a replacement and am wondering if I should go with the B252 or something else (Schlage only please as I have some credit with them)

I like the self lock feature of the Schlage B252 deadlatch which means it automatically locks when the gate closes (I do not know the technical term).

To add, am I allowed to ask for a reference/recommendation for a local locksmith to install my new lock correctly?

Likely there is no reason to replace the entire lock, usually it's just the latch that breaks. It is an E series latch & if you want to buy the latch only you'll need to know the backset, generally 2 3/8" or 2 3/4"

Thank you, I will look into this, but it may be beyond my amateur skill set. Does anyone know of a good, trusted locksmith or fellow forum member who is willing to either fix or replace this lock for a fee in the greater Houston Texas area?

Personally whenever possible I replace that lock with an institutional grade 1 knob. It will outlast the B252 many times over.

Unless you use an asylum function knob, many of the gates I have installed the B252 on can be reached over. The b252 is a double deadbolt configuration & needs a key to open from either side

Institutional lock is the preferred term for asylum lock. Same thing just one is more antiquated terminology. I do know what a B252 is.

The B252 deadlatch is much stronger than your asylum lock's deadlatch plus it is more immune to attack than a knob lock
