Advice Regarding Cutting Machines and Equipment

Postby CaptainComedown » 26 Jan 2021 11:32

Hi folks, hope everyone is keeping well! I have been learning about auto locksmithing for the past few months, and I intend to start an automotive locksmith business in the coming months. At first, I will be offering specific services, based on my capabilities, so will most likely start doing simple duplicate keys for cars that I am confident I can do.

I was looking at the Xhorse Dolphin XP-005 Auto Key Cutting Machine, paired with an Xhorse Key Max Tool, which will allow me to create transponders as well as control the key cutting unit itself. From what I have been able to research, this seems like it might be a good entry level machine because it is cheap, portable, has a lithium battery and claims to cut all key types, including Tibbe.

I also intend to buy an Xtool Pad Pro, as I have been told that this is a great entry level key programming tool. I have looked at other alternative such as the MVP Pro and the Zed Full, but I'm not sure how much better they will be? the reviews for the Xtool Pad seem to be pretty good.

So what do you all think? Would an Xhorse Dolphin, Xhorse VVDI + Keyfobs and Superchips, and an X-tool Pad Pro be a good starting combination for offering basic key duplication services? Or are there other machines or tools that would be better suited?

I also considered an SEC-E9 Cutting Machine, are these any good?

Any input is welcome, I would be interested to know your opinions regarding these tools or any recommendations you can make.

I hope someone who works automotive will chime in. The only auto I regularly do is Honda and some Fords (including Tibbe). But I wish you luck!
