A nifty trick using only the power of the mind to open a lock.

That totally cleared up my musings over which padlocks to use from now on. Only the Most Trusted will do....

Think 'bird' cylinders (UK only), then think worse. (From the ones I've picked). It's a wonder they dont just fall open by looking at them anyways.

another lock trick (combination)

Postby chunk » 5 Dec 2004 14:07

You ask to borrow a couple's wedding rings and you place the rings on the combination lock. After relocking it you hand the lock and rings back and ask the person to try and open the lock. They find that they are unable since they don't know the combination. You ask what year they were married. He responds (if he remembers otherwise she does.) Let's say its 1945. With your powerful mentalism (and WITHOUT touching the lock) you alter the combination asking the person to enter that year on the dials. PRESTO! The lock opens returning their rings to them.

Then, while the crowd is still scratching their heads, you wander over to a couple holding a baby. You ask to place the baby's teether on the lock. You lock it and hand it to the parents. They will inevitably try the date mentioned by the previous couple, 1945, but alas, it doesn't work! They are then asked to enter the year of their baby's birth, let's say 2002 and, again with your superior mental powers, you change the combo with your mind (again WITHOUT touching the lock). Then suddenly, you guessed it, after they enter their baby's birth year the lock opens returning the teether.

THE MAGICIAN DOES NOT TOUCH THE LOCK AFTER HANDING IT TO THE COUPLE NOR AFTER HEARING THE YEAR!

How is this one done?

Hey Everyone,

I guess i'll use this post as not only an answer but an introduction also: I just took up an interest towards lock picking a few days ago, and i've been reading guides and going through this forum for a couple days. I've yet to really start picking as I haven't make any picks, but i plan to in the days to come.

As for the opening of this lock using the "mind" and the tricks done by magicians, I used to perform magic, and therefore i have what one might call a "knack" for seeing stuff that isn't normally seen.

Go through the video, and around the 39th/ 40th second, when the lock is opened, look how its done. I'm not saying I know how to do it, or how its done, but notice how when he says that the lock is open and "opens" it, you never see it completely open until he awkwardly covers it with his hand, manipulates it and then shows the whole lock as open.

As for the other tricks, i'm not positive on how they're done, but I am familiar with trick locks, that open at an irregular bassis, such as every second turn. This could be the answer.

Anyways, I'm glad to be a part of this forum, and I hope to learn a lot and start to pick some locks :P .

Ciao!

There is a link on this site somewhere for a site that does modified locks like that. Notice how it required a firm grip on the shackle to release it after closing it but most probably wouldnt see that when used in a trick. Right who wants to buy one and impress all their mates ? heres the link for lockpicking god like abilities http://www.cannonsgreatescapes.net/padlocks.html

Its quite an interesting site if your into magic and the like.

After taking a look at that site that toomush2drink put up, i came across this:

This padlock is larger than the #21, and measures 2" wide by 3'' tall (including shackle). This lock is FULLY FUNCTIONING, therefore it can be shown to work with keys, etc. However, it is designed to be quickly opened by simply tilting it in a particular direction while also doing a "certain something"! No tools needed. Will stand CASUAL inspection.

Looks like whoever did it was EXTREMELY skilled

The Bird cylinders are common as hell over here. I had a Wren Bird night latch on my back door for years.

Terrible construction really. About as cheap as they come.
