Not to be paranoid but a free safe I got had a nasty surprise..... Tear GAS .Probably why it was free.

When I commented I was rudely told not to "PLAY" with stuff when I did not know what I was doing.

Are weaponized safes common or did I deal with a locksmith with an attitude problem.

I have only seen reference to tear gas in very old safes. and from what I have read it is illegal to booby trap a safe in Canada.

Locks Safes and Security shows a lot on Tear Gas that was used.

Marc Tobias Locks safes and security
The presence of tear gas can be lethal, especially if the
material was produced and installed many years ago. Tear gas was
routinely placed in safes and vaults used in federal buildings
and banks, between 1935-1970. Discharge can cause evacuation of a
building and be dangerous to those with heart or respiratory
conditions.

Double nasty as it chemically breaks down.A lot had arsenic.

CDC has a report with photos at https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm5308a4.htm
