Forgot how to dial the combination on that old safe? Think you got the right numbers but the handle is stuck? What safe should you buy? Ask your safe questions here!

If you have an engraver, you could do some squiggly lines
like the other parts, Then Salt and Vinegar, Heat in Oven to 450 then Vinegar til it is close to original.parts color.

So where is the salt part of the salt and vinegar?

Other than the lock case itself being of a different arrangement, this lock has all the earmarks of being model C71, which was later redesignated the R6700. The levers on this model did not have springs, and only drop by gravity.

Very nice work and display piece. You could drill through the lever for a press or interference fit for the fence rod, then soldered in place. That would give it superior mechanical strength, even if just blind drilled from the back side so the front of the lever remains unblemished.

Thank you! Sometimes even a small bit of information is valuable. I searched including the C71 model number and turned up this nice write up:
https://keypicking.com/viewtopic.php?f=100&t=10433 I did note that there was no spring on this example.

There are lots of photos. While not the same model it is very close and useful to help me understand how it works.

One thing that does sort of surprise me is that the operation of this lock is very similar to my modern gun safe. The inventor seems to have come up with a real winner.

If He DOES want to age it. A couple techniques could be used, I would check YouTube for a Technique you like. On boats where wires corrode, and you want to remove for soldering, or not. I use White Vinegar and Salt, it will eat the outer corrosion off.
Some use Apple Vinegar?

It wasn't uncommon for S&G to change the lock case design for the same model of lock.

Good designs never need to be changed in their basic functions. The same can be found with scuba regulators. I collect vintage scuba gear, and the basic mechanism of regulators has not changed in over 80 years.

I wanted a mount for the lock for display. I had some pieces of oak from past woodworking projects and cut a piece to size and then used a thickness planer to make the mount the right size for the lock. I am happy with the result.

Good choice! Wood is a great material for a lock mount.

That's an awesome stand! I wish I had a thickness planer to size the stands. I started making my stands out of plywood but later on used real wood. You can see the difference.

Enjoy your "new" lock :)

Got some additional pictures of the complete lock and decided to machine the part that pushes the bolt back into place. The action is much better with it and the bolt is guided by the bottom piece holding it all together in place of the cover.
