Safe dep box guard key change question

Postby rdbandkab » 8 Mar 2021 10:53

Hi there,

Is there a way to change the guard key on a Lefebure 7700 series lock that comes with a set of customer keys. The bolt is already extended..
I have the little t-handle change key also.
I recently purchased a 7700 with customer keys but need to change the guard key side lock to work with my existing guard key.

Thanks in advance..

Here are the instructions for using that 2 pin change key tool and how to make your guard key work with this lock:

[edit: if your new lock did not come with a guard key, you'll have to open it open and manually set the levers to the open position and then put the cover back on once the stump enters the lever gates. ]

I had tried the documentation a little earlier with no success. I figured I was doing something incorrectly.

The lock only came with 2 identical customer keys.
How difficult is the process of manually setting the levers to the open position without spilling out the contents of the lock onto my desk? I'm a total novice in this situation, but do have some technical skills with things mechanical.

Thanks!

Well, I have to ask what is the lock being used for and what is the actual problem you are hoping to solve with the new lock? Is this at a bank where customer will be using this lock on a real safe deposit box? Are you a bank manager or a maintenance man? If any of the answers are yes, I'd call someone in to do this professionally. A small mistake may prove to be costly, and your time is worth money, right?

If you are a lock collector just messing around and want a working key for both the customer key and the guard key, then there's not as much risk in opening the cover and messing with the levers inside.

To get more comforable, watch this video.

Your lock is going to be somewhat different inside, so opening the cover carefully is the best thing you can do if you decide to do so.

You can also share photos of your actual lock with us with and without the cover, and we might be able to offer some tips on what to press/lift/push/etc in order to get you to where you want to be.

The bank that I work at recently acquired a few used safe deposit box locks that they are wanting to use to replace some locks that had to be removed (drilled).
They bought a half dozen locks that came with customer keys, but no guard keys. They are hoping to be able to "program" these used locks to accept our guard keys.
The purchased locks have 2 customer keys and the bolts are currently extended.

Thanks again for your assistance.

Below is a picture of what our locks would look like. They also have the change key on the backside.
