Hi all, I'm new here and have a few questions to ask, if I may. After my grandfather passed away 30+ years ago, I ended up with this safe. I'm trying to find out any available info about it. I have seen a lot about the Cary Safe Co, but they were located in Buffalo NY. I can't seem to find much of anything about (as I read) Gary Safe Co from Chicago. It measures 23" H from the floor, 14-1/4" wide and 14" deep. Around 150+ pounds. 3 number combination starting with turn multiple times clockwise, 2 turns counter, then back to the last number. When I inherited it, I removed the inside door cover to figure out the combination, but don't remember much else about the inside. I assume the G.A Meek is the name of a previous owner or a company name. Can anyone shed any light or give a link or two for me to research? Thanks! Scott

And now that I posted this, I see that I can't directly upload a couple pics. Can I email them to someone to add to this post? Thank you! Scott

We usually share photos using a free hosting site such as imgur.com Here are the easy steps: 1. visit https://imgur.com2. on top Left click + New post button 3. on new that appears - click Choose/Photo/Video, browser your computer to find the photo file(s) 4. watch an advertisement and then click Close Ad on bottom right 5. click grey button labeled Hidden, then click green button labeled Copy Link and Paste it here.

As for wanting to find out more info about your safe, here is what I just replied to someone else about their old Mosler safe. In your case we can probably tell you some useful info once we see some photos. The name across the top of the safe is a common thing done to denote the owner or company where the safe was.. a layers office, a company's business office, the office of a business man. if you google G.A. Meek, there is a mention of such a name in the section marked South Madison in an old newspaper in Wisconsin. https://www.newspapers.com/clip/2045537 ... l-madison/Squelchtone wrote:Hello,
I'm a member of a safe and safe lock collectors group on Facebook and I see this kind of question there a lot. "I got an old safe, tell me all about it" I will say that it's always a tough question to answer because we would really need to know what info are you after. A lot of info is simply lost to time. Some old catalogs exist and folks here could maybe get you a model number or the listed price.
What other specifics are you after?
Thank you, Squelchtone

Reason: [image] tags expect a direct link to 1 image file such as imgur.com/album/picture.jpg if there are multiple photos in an imgur album we have to use the [URL] link tags instead

I did try a quick search but didn't come up with anything. Thanks for the link, can't believe I didn't see that as I am from Madison. I think my grandfather either lived or worked on Gilson St. Other info? I suppose anything about the "Gary Safe Co", if I'm reading it correctly. When they were in business, what else they produced, where are they now, general quality of the safe when new, historical stuff I guess. My history nerd side loves this kind of thing. I saw one quote at alliedsafe.com "Eventually, Allied expanded production facilities with the purchase of the Gary Safe Company in 1981." but that's about it so far. Edit: Thanks for posting the pics for me!

Sounds like you have some good leads already! I'm sure someone will see your post and provide some Gary safe company. If I find anything I'll chime in.
Good luck and what a nice little safe!
