Help with this pick

Postby Jakasmrd » 20 Mar 2021 16:51

How can I put this handle on lock pick. I could try heating it with hair dryer with high temperature, but I am afraid I pick might heat soften.

I want to get this rubber handle on. What do you suggest.

you could dip the the last 3/4 of the handle in boiling water then see if you could bush it on the rest of the way

Also try soapy water or WD40. Both will evaporate afterward.

For anyone else reading this, do you know of textured heat shrink material? It could be great for all kinds of handles.

Temper cycle for spring steel is over 400F (205C) degrees, you won't do any damage with a hair dryer.
If it's 300 series stainless it can't even be heat treated so, hair dryer is still fine.

@Raymond:
McMaster carries fabric heat shrink, it might fit the bill if it's like the stuff I have/had. Not as slick as regular shrink.

Ancor Marine Products makes Heat Activated adhesive in their Heat shrink Tubing, 17 Colors.
For Texture, wonder if you could cut rounded corner rectangles of sandpaper(60? Grit), Insert in grip so when Heated, it may give it a texture?
