need help with Major safe

Postby steve1954 » 28 Mar 2021 21:24

Hello All , this is my first time posting , lots of old posts interesting stories , My story Ill keep short but I'm looking for help,

Due to the pandemic we had a bar leasing down stairs, its been a bar as long as my family has owned the building
the owner of the bar could not hold on and left, we are in the middle of remodeling and find a safe in the concrete ground
I don't think any one has seen it or knows about it for at least 40 to 50 years, in reading your posts and answers it appears that there could be some help in getting this open by retrieving the combo from the manufacturer.

I'm going to travel down that path but the plate on the safe is badly beat up, we are really struggling could anyone tell me how many #s are typically the serial # it looks like 4 maybe 5 but that is my first hurdle to get the serial #
its a blue oval tag Major safe Co model I can see 688 maybe another 8

I thank you in advance, the other problem we have is its location is a trip hazard for further use of the location, may have to break it out ,as much as we don't want to

Hello,

More than likely you need to call a safe technician to come out and drill it, we don't have any quick tricks to share with you to listen for clicks and open it in 5 minutes like in the movies.

If you want to share a photo, you could do that, but I am not sure you can get the combo from Major, someone else bought them years ago, maybe AMSEC? but they're not gonna just give you the combination if you call or email them with the serial number. Instructions for sharing a photo via imgur.com viewtopic.php?f=2&t=60483&p=445410#p445410

What major city or state are you near, we can tell you how to find a qualified safe technician, opening a safe like this is usually $250-$750. Not all locksmith shops do safe work either, so don't just call the 1st locksmith you google.

Whatever you do, don't beat the dial off with a hammer, and don't try to drill it yourself, that just makes it cost more time and money when you end up calling a professional anyway.

thanks for that, the safe is in San Francisco,

I have a phone # for the buyer of MAJOR who states with a lock smith Id they will give the combo if I have the serial #

do you know how many actual digits are in the serial # the plate is real bad and I don't want to attempt to get the combo
without getting correct info , knowing how many digits there are would help me decipher the difficult reading of the plate with the number on it. ??

HOW MANY NUMBERS ARE OR DIGITS ARE IN THE SERIAL # if any one knows

thanks

No need for the Caps Lock, lol, we really can't help until you post a photo, there were way too many models made to just go by what you wrote. Please post a photo as that helps us age the model and thus the serial number range.

More than likely you need a locksmith that Amsec trusts to come look at it in person to get the info they need before they call Amsec to get the combination *if they even have it on file*. Why not let them come and look at the serial number and figure it out as they will probably have to anyway.

I've seen them with 5 and 6 Digit Serial Numbers. Their is equal space on the left and right of Serial Number. Number is centered in the Area. Don't know if it will help.
Good Luck.
