Help with Assa keyway/lock identification

Postby Lockm3up » 11 Mar 2021 16:49

Can anyone help in identifying this keyway and thus helping me find the inner working so I can attempt it.

Maybe a Lockwood? I have L4 keys here that looks close but maybe a D08 from a little research, both Lockwood keyways.

That's what I was looking at for the D08, I have not worked with that keyway so I don't have much knowledge on it. I was going off the Lockwood L4 that I have that looked similar but not quite dead on. Neither of them have side cuts to my knowledge (the L4s that I have deff don't). I was hoping this might just help you narrow it down but it could be a totally different keyway. Im not as experienced as a lot of the guys in this forum so take what i say with a grain of salt.

Does the back of the plug have any markings?

I don't think Lockm3up is actually looking for the keyway or which keyblank goes into that lock, I think they want to know which ASSA mechanism it is so they can try to pick it. (i.e. Twin 6000, V10, Combi, Maximum+, SCD)

I was starting to come to the conclusion that it was an ASSA twin series with some research. I figured you guys would have a way better understanding than me but I enjoy my web searching searching on it as it helps me learn.

The keyhole looks to be a different color than the rest of the lock, it's certainly not an ASSA Twin or V-10 keyway

Exactly..

This lock was found by my brother who's an electrical engineer, it's highly unlikely that it been adulterated which has left me slightly perplexed...

I might be willing to fit the thing if anyone knows what's going on with it maybe a step by step for all our educational sakes haha...

Have you taken the tailpiece off yet? If so, any markings there?

Image of tail piece removed, nothing noteworthy to me other than the screws we held in with locktite..

very noteworthy.. that triangle shape on the right says there's a sidebar there, meaning you have to pick the pins like a regular pin tumbler lock, but you also have to deal with some side pins or sliders that allow the sidebar to fall in while the plug it rotated.

Found this keyway and core on YT pick and gut video. Its a twin combi and it's quite the challenge from what I can see.

"Quite the challenge"

Yep. I'd say that is an accurate description.
