I use gaffer tape and the wedge in the letterbox kit to hold it open.

dam  i was going to use a 6" nail :P
no i mean is it better attached to the letter box kit or i thought about making a bracket that would clamp to the door hold the letter box open and you could also fix the camera to it .
i would have thought it would give you a more stable veiw instead of shaking about on the letter box kit.
lock picking! i luv it

If you attach it too the tool you can aim it at your snib lifter or hook for the wire latch puller and then you can be very precise with it. If you attach it to the door you cannot always see how far away the snib or latch is which is a problem you get using the mirror.

On a slightly lighter note regarding letter box tools, has anyone discovered how useful a small child can be for the purpose?

An appropriately small arm can often fit very easily through the letter box, and it is child's play to locate and operate the latch by feel.

I mention it because I once managed to let myself in in exactly this way after I lost my door key. (Probably just goes to show what weedy arms I had. I never was one for doing weights at the gym.)

Not to forget what educational benefits sutch a exersize would have on the child. You could make a living out of it :)

Either as a criminal or as a locksmith :)

I had a call out recently to a lockout. Received another call off this guy a couple of minutes later cancelling and saying 'the child managed to get in'. It was a simple latch so was most probably this 'kids arm through the letterbox' technique...
