New picker here. I have gotten through a bunch of beginner level locks but now I am attempting this brinks circular lock and after a whole week I am still stumped. It is 60mm 4 pin and says stainless steel around the keyway, brinks on the side. I THINK it is a model 663 but idk.
I feel like it has a security pin on pin 4 and 1. The key bitting doesnt look hard 4 is shallower than 3, 3 than 2, 2 than 1. It should be easy enough. But when I pick the lock only pin 4 and 1 feel pressure. Then idk if I feel a false set because the spring is so strong. After that it feels like I can pick pin 3. Pin 2 never feels like it has any pressure.
It cannot even be raked no matter how much I try.
Am I oversetting the pins? Is it the binding order? Or is it just the security pins stopping me?

I believe that was once known as the Brinks R70 model. If the construction is the same as I remember, it was a real chore to turn the key because the key turns, what is essentially a big gear inside that is part of the shackle itself so it takes a lot of torque to turn the plug. I remember using wobbling tension from medium to hard pressure and I would rock a half diamond inside the keyway to set the pins. There was a spool pin for sure, and it did like getting hung up. Try zipping outwards with a half diamond, and the second you zip the pick out of the lock, apply heavy tension to turn the plug.

Thanks Squelch. I appreciate that advice. This is such a cool hobby and I have been interested in before but really giving it a go now.
Ironically I was finally able to open it today, but only twice and I still feel stumped just got lucky lol. Idk if it is r70, I thought that would be a 70mm lock. When it did finally open I could feel it big time and new just one pin was left and when I got it it flew upon. Then I got it easy I got lucky lol. Now Im stumped again trying to recreate what I did.
Have had this lock in the past. Agree with Squelchtone on the one sided feel of it. Because of its shape it was somewhat awkward to practice on for SPP but it ended up being enjoyable for impressioning, so I want to give a plug for that. For impressioning practice the shape was easy to grab for turning the lock itself against a keyblank that was held by vicegrips in a way that most locks can hurt your hands after awhile.
Funny thing I got another one of these locks from a friend and it was their old locker padlock so it got used a lot. Exact same lock but it was heavily used. I can zip it open pretty easy. So I started trying to zip the newer lock and I did get it once. Just need some practice I guess. I still feel defeated at the moment, like I dont fully understand how to SPP it and that has been my goal with all the other locks up til now. Still having fun tho.
