Sargent and Greenleaf combo on Sentry D888

Forgot how to dial the combination on that old safe? Think you got the right numbers but the handle is stuck? What safe should you buy? Ask your safe questions here!

That pic is exactly the safe I got. I was looking to add a pic but I dont have an account at imgur or Flickr or any of those sites.

But it is the same safe. Gold trim and all. S&G lock, which surprised me.

Currently going to try and graph one number, but the video was a bit annoying in that the contact points were above and below on the example he gave. I just saw the written out link, and I think I will try it that way.

As a locksmith, I would get the serial number and call Sentry for the combo but you seem to need a new hobby or something

Yeah, somewhat of a hobby. I did call ONE locksmith and he said Sentry safes were crap and he did not believe he could drill it out and have a replacement lock (even though I told him it was S&G lock).

So at this point I will continue trying to graph the wheels, take my time and see what I can come up with. Even if I can get ONE number, It will take my number of combinations way down.

One other question that I had as I read into this came up. With the gold handle on this safe, is it still the same process to manipulate it? I tried a bunch of combinations and when i got to the last number, i then started spinning right to get the nose to drop and open, or at least unlock the ABILITY to use the handle.????

I found one video of a person opening this safe and that's the way it appears to work.

Most Sentry safes are low-cost fire resistant safes & they work well for their intended purpose but your safe looks to be one of Sentry's higher priced models & not as flimsy as Sentry's plastic bodied safes are. Easiest way to see how your safe works is to find another one nearby & take a look at it

100% agree with you and and got shut down when I approached the wife with the proposition of buying one just like it, but unlocked.

I have read the graphing info and am a bit confused. Like I mentioned above, the contact area is between 6 and 13. So when i pick up all the wheels LEFT and I start at 0. I turn right and the first number I come into is the 13. When I drag over it I dont feel it much, but I do feel the 6. If I go back to the 13 from the 6, I do feel the 13 and it gets stopped just 1/8th after it.

SO THE QUESTION IS THIS

Will this work or once I get to the 13, do I have to spin all the way around LEFT to get to the 6 and feel that contact point there?

I think I got confused on how to graph the numbers that are within your contact area. But they would seem to be the easiest since your dial is already there??? :|

Any clarification is appreciated.

GREAT NEWS

I BELIEVE I FOUND ONE NUMBER, 85, AND ITS ON WHEEL ONE. - as far as I can tell...

So if I understand correctly, wheel 1 is the last digit on the combination, right? Or do I have it backwards? I thought the kid spins the wheels and says wheel 3 is picked up on the first pass when you are spinning 4 or more times to start a combination.

Common understanding is, that wheel 1 is for the first number, 2 for the second and so on. In a 3-wheel lock the 3rd wheel is picked up after 1 turn and the 1st wheel after 3 turns.
