Victor Safe - With Combination

Postby IrwinMFletcher » 30 Sep 2021 11:24

Hello,

I have a Victor combination lock that is in a full-size door, not a floor safe. I believe I have the combination, it's one of two. One is a 4 digit combination and the other is a 5 digit combination. Here are some photos:

The first combination - 4 digits - I am a bit skeptical of because of the closeness of two of the numbers.

1 - 0 - 23 - 78

The second possible combination is 5 digits

80 - 14 - 82 - 25 -12

For the 4 digit combination I have tried the 4 Left - 3 Right - 2 Left - 1 Right and 4 Right - 3 Left - 2 Right - 1 Left

I have no idea how to try the 5 digit combination.

I would love any thoughts the community may have.

Thanks in advance!

The lock is likely a Yale L-2, which requires only three numbers. Dialling direction is 4L, 3R, 2L, R to stop. Some people write down the final stopping point as a fourth number. A distance of just 1 between two consecutive numbers is not possible with this lock. It is more like a minimum of 5 or so. You can find this out by dialling e.g. dialling a full turn to the right stopping at 50, then turn the dial back back. You should be able to feel a pick-up before a full turn. How much it is before 50 determines the absolute minimum.

If the numbers come from a hand written note photos of this note might be helpful. You could try the the last three numbers of each, the first and middle 3 of the 5-number combination or a random permutation of three random numbers.

Try 80-14-82-25 LRLR 4321. If that doesn't work try 14-82-25-12. LRLR 4321

Great! What numbers did you have to dial?
