That wasn't one of my quotes, it was one of my fathers and grandfathers(joiners & surveyors).

Meaning: If you cut a piece of wood too short, then it's useless so do what you the hell you want with it. Hence, Measure twice, cut once. Phrases like this probably seem really stupid to the rest of the country & world but they all have simple minds around here.

You did say that.
The expression measure twice cut once is wildly known but ive never heard of 'If it's too short, cut a bit off.' either.

"If it's too short, cut a bit off," is rather funny. It's better when people come out with original quips, rather than repeating the same old ones, don't you think? Makes life more interesting.
