Mosler Safe - with combination (possibly)

Forgot how to dial the combination on that old safe? Think you got the right numbers but the handle is stuck? What safe should you buy? Ask your safe questions here!

Mosler Safe - with combination (possibly)

Postby IrwinMFletcher » 4 Oct 2021 12:00

Hello,

I have a Mosler combination lock on a safe with what I believe to be the combination.

The combination I have is: 1 - 0 - 23 - 78

Is it possible for this combination lock to have two numbers that are that close to each other (the 1 and the 0)?

Is this lock a 4 digit or 3 digit combination?

What is the dialing pattern?

Thanks for the help!!

With this one it is possible to have two numbers nearly identical or even identical, but dialling such numbers can be awkward. I believe it is a 4-wheel lock with last turn left. So the sequence would be 5L-4R-3L-2R-L to stop. If it is indeed 1-0-..., then 5R to 0, 3L to 23, 2R to 78, L to stop would probably work too.

Hi Martin,

Thanks so much for the help! The 5L-4R-3L-2R-Left to stop seems to work. I can now move the handle on the door, I could not move it before the combination was dialed.

However, the door still doesn't open. The handle goes from a flat position up to almost a 45-degree position (maybe a little less) but the door does not open.

Any ideas?

You could try to hit the door around the edge with a rubber mallet to loosen it up. (Or maybe with your fist. Or with anything else looking similar unless you want to restore it.) 45° might be the maximum turn and it certainly won't be much more if it isn't, Nonetheless you can put light to medium torque on the handle while you hit the door.
