Fun find! Segal 8-pin tubular lock

More digging through the reclaimed hardware bins. Combing the area turned up 85% of the hardware required for the vertical deadbolt install, but no keys.

How common are these still? Seems like new manufacturing under the Segal name has switched over to the classic pin tumbler format. (Edit: some research on the history of Segal branding on LP101.)



Pretty neat that the unusual spacing on the pins means a standard 8-pin tubular pick may not actually work

Huh, and all the listings note a 7-pin tumbler (?), but if the listing has photos of the lock itself, when I squint real hard it still looks like 8 pins to me.

More exaggerated lighting showing the 8-pin configuration, which reads more like 9-pin-minus-1 now.


And a profile view showing the raised ball in the center, which I imagine is a key guide but also works to frustrate the tiny tubular tensioner I have from Sparrows.

Spacing for a 9 pin lock. Most key machines won't cut a key for that. Have to manually cut the keys.
