Hello there, inherited a bunch of locks

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

Hello there, inherited a bunch of locks

Postby Biggyballs » 13 Oct 2021 13:57

Hello Lockpickers... my first time here. I inherited a few locks from a crazy uncle who thought someone was stealing all his stuff. :D

I can't say I know much of anything about these. I started googling them and it looks like some of them are pretty heavy duty locks. There are some Abus and some Abloy and a few Masters. Not sure what the "Boron Multilock" is.

I have all the keys it appears as well.

Do these locks have any value, and would it be worth the time to list them on the classifieds here? Or maybe sell them on Ebay?

Thanks you for helping me out.

I believe the locks (Abloy, Abus, etc.) are worthy challenges. Most of these locks are above my picking level. However, I would be interested in a mix of 6 or 8. I am not sure what the “market value” would be. Post a few up and see how well the sell. Also gonna depend on shipping costs. Where are the locks located?

These are located in Nashville, TN. They are pretty heavy. When you try to pick them all up at once. :)

I don't mean to poison the well for anyone here looking to grab some of these (and I may well be included in that set ;-) ), but in all fairness I do feel obligated to say to OP, your uncle had a very nice collection. Some of those locks are worth quite a bit of money. Before selling any of these I'd encourage you to do some more research and not let them go too cheaply. If you have specific questions about any of these, feel free to post some close-ups of each and there are probably more than a few folks here that would help you.

For example, that Protec in the 3rd pic down retails new for $175 over at Security Snobs. Since it's used and it looks like you only have one key you're not going to get anywhere near that for it, but it's still worth a lot more than something of similar size/weight you'd find at the local big box store.

Are the locks KD (Keyed Differently) or KA (Keyed Alike) ?
Within each group of similar locks does each lock have its own unique key or do they all share the same key ?

I ask that because it would make more sense to sell keyed alike locks as a set rather than one lock with one key each to different people.

Very good point. He should get fair and reasonable prices for them.

Hello and welcome to the forum. As an admin I have to point out that there are rules to sell here. There's a big red box on top of Buy - Sell - Trade forum. Please read them before making an ad.

Thanks

Thank you all for the information. I guess I have to do some digging and figure out there true value and get them listed somewhere. Either on here or Ebay. To the ADMIN, I will read the Buy, Sell, Trade rules if I end up posting any of them on the classifieds section.

If any of you want to PM me to make me an offer I can't refuse, let me know. :D
