Does anyone know off hand what size the screw is that holds the 51s cores in those old brass Medeco padlocks? I’m having trouble finding a size for some reason.
Now that I’m thinking about it do those padlocks have a name? So far “old brass” is about as specific as I’ve seen. Thanks, I appreciate it.

Hello, Do you mean the set screw that goes down into the shackle hole and keeps the cylinder carrier from sliding out of the bottom of the padlock? Speaking of cylinder, 51S is not the model, that's the Underwriters Laboratories assigned number to Medeco cylinders for passing high security tests. They proudly stamp it on every cylinder, but the actual model number is something like 50-0010, The padlocks are referred to as "50 Series" I believe. Medeco's Parts/Service manual says 6-32 x 1/2" Hex Socket Cone Point Set Screw Part # CP-O11011-080 on page 58 of the PDF file (page 56 of the printed page) http://nefflock.com/Catalogs/Medeco_High_Security_Lock_Manual.pdf Hope that is what you are looking for, have a good evening, Squelchtone

I may be wrong about that being the lock I have. Everything worked out fine and the core came right out it’s that I just noticed the shackle retaining screw on the diagram is on the back of the lock and on the ones I have it’s up through the bottom of the lock body. I couldn’t find a 6/32 but a 1/16th fit and got the screw out. Other than that the diagram is correct in how the core is held in etc.
Is that enough of a detail to mean it’s a different series lock or could that be a production difference that switched at some point?

Can you post a photo or two of your actual padlock? It will just be guesswork unless we know which model you have Use this site to share the pics: https://imgbb.com/I'd like to see side view, bottom of padlock where key inserts, and down the shackle holes. Thanks, Squelchtone

Here’s what they look like. The ones I have came with the next 2 shackle sizes up. Other than that the shackle hole is on the bottom. Whether it’s a drain or there is a screw in there I haven’t physically touched but there is no hole on the back. Let me know if that works.

Sorry, but that stock photo is not helpful.. Is it possible for you to take an actual photo of your lock and the bottom where they key inserts so I can see which cylinder and which cylinder carrier is in there? Is it a KIK, an LFIC? Does your cylinder come out of a carrier once it slides out of the padlock body, is it one assembly? As far as I know there is no screw that goes up into the weep hole in the bottom of the padlock, perhaps I am not understanding what you mean about the way your cylinder is held in place inside the padlock body.. I guess I'm also not sure what your current question is. Are you still trying to fix the padlock or figure out where a particular screw goes or just curious about design changes compared the service manual diagram I found which may or may not even be for your actual lock model? It's a bit frustrating and not easy doing this over forum posts with no photos, I honestly wish I had the padlock in my hand so I could just answer your question without guessing.

Here they are. I’m pretty sure they’re Series 50, there’s a couple listed on ebay right now. Back, front, lfic and then the one held in by the bb. The one that’s held in by the bb, that’s not technically a kik I’m guessing. What’s the proper name I should call that so people know what I’m talking about? I always call them the 51s because the lfic is 32s and I’ve never seen those numbers flip. It seems to do the job for this application.

Ok, I didn’t know if that was a general term or if there was something more specific. That’s what was typed on the box though so that would make sense.
I have one of these that won’t open for anything. I don’t know if it’s one of those magical bittings or there’s something wrong with it. It doesn’t offer up much feedback to work with. The one on the left up there.
I appreciate the info, thanks guys.

I’m thinking maybe they switched to putting the shackle screw on the inside at some point and possibly changing the set screw size.
