Picking Inconsistencies

Postby mjkings » 19 Oct 2021 16:17

I am 3 months into lock picking. I have seven various locks That I pick. Sometimes I can pick them all in 5 minutes. Sometimes One or several locks won't pick. I have done that lock 10 times in a row and then I can't pick it. Are there any Professionals that run into this? Or can you pick every lock every time.

I am a newbie with a little less time than you. I have picked door locks, master locks, and finally some cheap locks from china. The locks from china took me about 3 weeks. How did I do it? I left the locks alone that I have picked alone and worked only on those cheap locks. Don't give up! I am currently working on two round storage shed like locks. They have been a pain but I am going to get them because they are the only ones I am going to work on. Don't give up!

It can be caused by several things. One, mikeinflorida touched on is psychological. Another is when picking wears the pins into deformed shapes. Another is dirt/debris in the lock. Another is lack of lube. Another is a tendency to increase tension on the tension wrench the more times you unsuccessfully try the lock in a single session.

I'm dealing with the same thing. Some days I can pick the locks in a few seconds. Sometimes I can't pick the same lock at all. I'm thinking it's probably a beginner issue as well. But I think it's probably one every picker goes through. Maybe a pro can confirm that and give some advice on how to be more consistent?
