As far a I know in Canada, if costums takes the picks you dont get in trouble.
Its actual possession that gets you in trouble, if its at costums you arn't in possession of them. Matt

you can't get in trouble for anything in the mail being sent to you. only for possession...

otherwise i could send you cocaine in the mail and tip off the postmaster, and you'd get arrested for drugs even though they never made it to your house and there is no proof you ever ordered them etc.

This is most probably the same with Canada as it is in Aus. Customs don't have a problem with lockpicks - heck they opened my pickgun an even pulled the trigger a few times - dirty fingers But they still delivered.

I hate to interupt but in their policies it says that the only people able to purchase locksmithing tools must either be a car repossessor, car dealer, or a bona fide locksmith. This was what was under their terms & conditions. And according to the policies, the person ordering the picks must prove that they are one of the three people stated above. Customs will most definitely know that they are picks because they now screen all mail. So a sleezy lockpick sale sight won't do it.

Oh dear ord. Here we go.

First up, the best places to buy picks from on-line in my opinion are:

Each of these are reputable and respectable suppliers. They frequently send picks and associated tools into Canada every day.

Canada Customs will NOT seize lockpicks or tools coming into the country. The terms and policies as specified by many of these sites concern only the United States Postal Service, which prohibits the shipping of these tools to anyone other than a genuine locksmith, police officer, or other person allowed to possess these tools. In many cases, these companies will utilize UPS or FedEx for shpping purposes. Also, since the delivery is going to Canada, they can use USPS at the customers discretion.

US Postal regulations do NOT apply to Canadian deliveries. Further, actually reading the Canada Criminal code will show you that you must be in posession of the tools in a circumstance which gives rise to the belief that they were or are going to be used for a criminal activity.

The ONLY provinces which have independent laws concerning these tools are. 1. British Columbia, 2. Alberta and 3. Saskatchewan.

None of the other provinces INCLUDING Ontario have any prohibitions concerning posession of locksmithing tools.

Canada Customs does NOT screen all mail. This includes parcel post. As a matter of fact, less than 20% of all mail sent into and through Canada is screened.

It is the responsibility of the purchaser to honestly, and legally possess these tools. As stated, there are only 3 provinces which have any regulations at all, and in the case of hobbyest pickers, so long as they are in your home they are still legal. Transportation from the post office to home is not considered a criminal offence.

Finally this is probably the best direct answer I have ever received. I'm so going to fly to BC right now and order them there . But some other people stated that it is illegal to even possess the picks anywhere in Canada without a licence...sometimes even up to 10 years in jail.

well thank you romstar for clearing that up for us. So basically what you're saying is that anybody in Ontario can purchase lockpicks as long as they are delivered UPS or something like that.
