Replacing cylinder lock on triple lock security door

Postby deblak3 » 12 Jun 2022 19:49

Hi, I've got a triple lock security door - I've managed to take the cylinder lock out, but for the life of me, I can't figure out why when I replace the cylinder lock, it won't lock the door? The old locks were working fine too, but even when I put these back in now they won't lock the door either when I turn the key. Is there some sort of 'trick' I need to be aware of with it being a triple lock security door (e.g. hold something down before putting in the lock etc)?

Try each lock with Door propped open. May be an alignment issue.

Thanks for the advice. I've always had the door open when I've tried to replace the lock, but issue is still there. I've got 2 triple lock security doors exactly the same, and I'm having issues with both of them. It's like the cam is not going into the correct spot in order to lock and then unlock the doors, so I was thinking maybe I have to do something unique for these triple lock doors to ensure the cylinder lock is installed properly. I've replaced cylinder locks on other single lock security doors in the past, and have never had an issue - just these triple lock doors unfortunately.

Photos would be helpful. Go back to verifying Plug rotates cylinder by it self, then test each Step of assembly. May be something easy, and easily overlooked.

Have you replaced the cylinder ? The cam might not be compatible with the lock.

As stated pictures would be helpful.

This thread seems dead, but i apologize for this tangent, nonetheless.

I had to look up "triple lock security door." What I found was a door that locks or lathes at the top and bottom as well as the side near the knob.

It also seems this is an Australian thing. I haven't seen references to these elsewhere.

Is that so? Is that the whole story?

Thanks,

jv

They are used here in the USA as well. They seem to be more heavily used in exit devices.

GU, Hoppe & many others make a multi-lock which locks at the top, bottom and sometimes sides of the door. It can sometimes take months for my distributor to get the parts I need to replace a broken multi lock.

All about doors/ Strybuc are the only two places in the US to get some of these

I replaced a GU Multi lock yesterday, at a mansion--it got very involved because even though the old lock & the new replacement were made by the same company they were not very well matched

I have also seem them occasionally in residential on some higher end/custom homes. Seems like they are becoming more popular. In addition to the added security, they also cause the door to seal more tightly, leading to increased energy efficiency.

Sure, when they are new but over time the doors warp & then I'll be grinding the strikes to take pressure off the latches

Ever see what the new multi-locks cost? It can be very scary-- I charged $750 to put one in last week & it took over a month just to get it from Strybuc

Many times the multi-lock will break and no longer lock--the client will hafta leave a door in their house unlocked for 6-8 weeks or longer sometimes-- I think the multi-lock is a crummy idea but it doesn't seem like many locksmiths work on them & they make me $$$
