Got a cool old key? What keyway is this?! Need a key for that old steamer trunk or padlock? Do Not Duplicate got you down? What's that part number for that factory key section? Which supplier has this key blank in stock? Need the MACS, root depth, or Depth and Spacing for your lock? Need some pre cut keys? Keys and Key Blanks is the forum for you!

What blank do I need? (American)

Hey I have this key I want to try and duplicate on my own and I was wondering if any of yall could tell me exactly what kind of American blank I would need. I was going to get a few and just try filing them similiar to the original unless yall have a better idea?

But it says Do Not Duplicate, we don't want to break any local or federal laws by helping with your question.

What does the lock secure? A Southern Pacific Railroad / UNION PACIFIC Railroad / Alaska Railroad / CSX switch or cab perhaps? That's where the H10 style padlock with double sided wafer lock mechanism is usually used, by railroads.

That is a restricted key blank, it's only available from American Padlock because they don't want you to have it
it would be the reverse of the 1041CK blank if it were available

Well that explains why I was having such a hard time finding out what kind of key it is. Currently this lock secures my shed hahaha. The more I realized how hard it was to find that kind of key the more I realized how doomed any chance of getting into said shed would be

um, help me understand here..

if you have the key you posted a photo of, why not use that key to open the shed?

something doesn't sounds right, my spidey senses are tingling....

I use that key almost everyday I was just trying to make a copy in the event that key goes missing as keys tend to do. The few places I’ve tried to get it duplicated at didn’t carry the correct blanks for it and now I’m understanding why I spose. Didn’t realize it was some big security thing just kinda looked like an ol beat up padlock to me. Still does in fact

Also I don’t get why me duplicating my key would be a threat to other locks. Even if they take the same type of blank wouldn’t the other locks require keys that are cut differently?

It's true--you really don't understand the whole 'restricted key' thing

Your key and lock are probably a lock a railroad employee took home (stole from work) if you're that worried, stop by Walmart and get a new padlock with 2 keys.

Your key is the D575 key code which is not just the same blank, it is the same exact key cuts as a railroad key used on the railyard and trains.

I still think your story and explanation are BS.

You are at serious risk of a not-so-friendly visit from the railway police and DHS for having a restricted key to vital infrastructure.
