Hi all, im new to the forum and new to lockpicking..im looking for information on a padlock. It is mfg by Schlage and the name on the lock is Best..can anyone tell me how many pins it has( I think 5)...And does it have any security pins..I looked on lockwiki and found nothing. Also can anyone direct me to a site besides lockwiki to get information on locks...any and all info appreciated.....jeff

A photo would help a lot, from your description I'm wondering if it's a Schlage KS series padlock (pages 7 and 9 of this product guide) with a Best SFIC cylinder (Matt Blaze has a cool writeup.) Of course it could be easily be the other way around, with a Best-manufactured padlock and Schlage-branded SFIC cylinder :P Anyway, if it's a SFIC cylinder, they're commonly 6 to 7 pins. (edit: also 5, Gordon did a writeup on combinating one.)

For finding info, I do like the search function on this forum a lot, and otherwise the Discords linked in the menu to the left are very active and can help with lock info too.

The first scenario is more likely. Almost every lock manufacturer has a line that is prepped for SFIC, but I've never seen a Best brand padlock that is prepped for anything else. A photo would help though, as you say. If this is the case, the core is most likely to be a 6 or 7 pin, and most likely to not have any security pins. Other configurations are possible, but are rare.
