When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

I have some cheap Chinese picks, and two small Sparrows pick sets. The Sparrows picks are great, and take up no room in their case, or in my pocket. I find them a bit uncomfortable though because the handles are the same thickness as the picks. To remedy this, I’ve ordered 5 individual Peterson picks. These are them.

The question I forgot to ask; Do these seem like good choices for handled picks? Any glaring omissions that I should worry about?

Sure, although I have read from others' experiences on r/lockpicking that Peterson tools may require some polishing. The most glaring omission is tension wrenches, although that largely depends on how far you wish to pursue locksport.

Thanks FranklyFlawless. Indeed, tension wrenches (and also single pin picks) were not part of my Peterson purchase, but that’s only because I already have several of them from Sparrows purchases.

I like the HD SS 18, but the rest just seem like a try at getting lucky

Also, you may find that you require different thicknesses for your tools depending on the keyway. 1.8mm is pretty thin so you will need to be careful about the amount of force you use with it when lifting pins to the shear line, among other applications.

I personally don't care whether my rakes have handles, they usually don't tend to get uncomfortable. Hooks and other SPP tools, I need handles. My hands get sore if I have to pick anything that takes longer than a couple minutes unless they've got decent handles. There have been a couple occasions when I wanted a rake with a comfy grip, but not nearly as much as with hooks. All that said, Peterson picks are amazing regardless and adding anything from them to your collection is a good idea.I love their handles, pick metal, and general quality. Their tension wrenches (most of them at least) are pretty expensive.

As a locksmith, I've learned over the past 30 years that getting lucky takes me longer than using my skills. In my trade time is money
