Diebold Lug Door

Forgot how to dial the combination on that old safe? Think you got the right numbers but the handle is stuck? What safe should you buy? Ask your safe questions here!

Diebold Lug Door

Grabbed this Diebold lug door for a great deal. My plan was to use it for my personal safe. But when I got it opened I noticed the original tri-bolt lock was gone and replaced with a normal. How secure would you guys say this is with only one bolt locking the safe? Also, how strong are the sides and top of these safes?

Hi Brian, Actual security against forced entry is a difficult topic. There is not much public information. Some attacks are done only in the lab. Some attacks are also done by sophisticated burglars. Some attacks are the bread and butter of most criminals. I am very sure, that this safe isn't TRTL-30 anymore, but it makes probably not much of a difference in a burglary. Standard attacks are stealing the safe (yours is heavy), breaking it open with pry bars and cutting a hole with an angle grinder. It could be an issue when they use the angle grinder on the door, but that one is really thick and they must use the grinder on the right spot to benefit. Nonetheless, the original lock would look nicer.

Your safe is def more secure than the gun safe I looked at the other day, one in particular cost over $3,000 and weighed 930 pounds

Would the original lock for this safe have been a Diebold 180?

Yup, probably a 180-55.
