Patio Doors heavy duty lockable bolt

Postby tochnia » 15 Mar 2024 14:08

Hello,

This is my first post in forum.
I hope you will be able to advise which Patio /sliding/ door bolt is considered heavy duty with high security and available in Europe /ideally UK/.
As I see that in Australia they have ADI Lockable bolt 5004 - which is 13mm diameter and look better made compared to everything else.
In UK/Europe I'm finding mostly Era/Yale/Federal 9.5mm bolts but lot of customers have them jamed/broken after just few months.
And lot of people complain that their Era keys broke down really fast.
Abloy which is my favourite brand for locks manufacture only Lockwood Patio Bold 680, but doesn't even offer it for sale in Europe. I found it mostly on Australian websites.

Any advice will be welcomed 8)

While not an answer to your original question, I'll offer a tip. Most sliding glass door locks (and sliding glass doors in general) are not super secure, as you've discovered. If you don't need to enter through that door from the outside when it's locked, a piece of sturdy wood or metal cut to the length of the non-sliding leaf and laid in the track, so as to physically block the movement of the sliding leaf, goes a long way to increase security and is pretty cheap.

The downside of course is the door can only be unlocked from the inside, since you have to remove your block first to open it.

If you are going to block the door's sliding with a piece of wood or metal, you need to make it really wedge into place or someone will simply buy a flat steel car opening tool and remove it from the trac from outside the door

That's the reason the Charley Bar uses a flat steel key to keep the bar from being raised from outside...
