Victor Safe Yale Lock 5 Code Combination

Postby Gina » 15 Jul 2024 11:22

My grandmother has a very large victor safe with 5 code lock on it. She was able to get into it for the pas several decades after several tries herself. She has now unfortunately passed and we cannot figure out how she got into it. We have the code. But even when she was alive and would supervise us trying to get in, she ultimately had to put the code in herself to get it unlocked.

Can someone please confirm that the process is:
Doesn't matter what number you start turning from you turn 5R-4L-3R-2L-1R-stop on number? Does this mean that you pass the number 4 times, stop on the number on the 5th then turn 3 times, stop on the number on the 4, etc.?

Yes, that's how you do it. Here is a description of a lock with 4L-3R-2L and R to stop: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qEYjgOFKR1U
Some locks need a definite end as they don't stop. They have a number for the last turn. Most stop on their own. But even with locks that stop on their own some owner write down a number. So don't be surprised if the dial stops. If it stops and the handle doesn't turn, then try to turn it more just by hand, no pipe wrench.
If your RLRLR sequence doesn't work you can try the inverse direction sequence.
