Can anyone tell me what key blank this key is made from?

Hoping somebody can identify which key blank this is, thanks!

Looks like a "J".

As Raymond said (Don't mean to step on you Raymond, but finally a question I can answer)... Best small format in a "J" keyway as indicated by the stamping. Look up "1A1J1" where ever you get blanks.

Re: Can anyone tell me which Lishi will match this key?

Postby BogusException » 17 Jan 2025 11:02

Thanks Raymond ("J", funny!) & RedStagKiller!

I'm asking to find a Lishi for it's lock, but my best guess is a BE2-7.

My bad for only posting profile:

https://ibb.co/6RyBbKV Best "J" profile matches.

At current $$$, I don't want to make a mistake.

That Lishi appears to be for the "A" keyway only. Just doing a quick search and I cant find one that'll work a "J" keyway (I don't know much about the Lishi's, I don't own any either). Why are you looking for this specific pick for an oddball keyway? Just curious as to some of the people on here might have a better solution for you.

RedStagKiller is correct, I have a list of what Lishi's work in the US, don't remember where I found it but states the BE2-6 and BE2-7 are for "A" keyway only. I don't have any Best Lishi's in my collection yet. There are probably Youtube videos out there from others that have experimented with them. Maybe they will make one for the J keyway soon?

Thanks RedStagKiller & jimdoc...

There are many of these BEST locks at the facility, and the few I've found look like the BE2-7, or "J" stock. Problem is, too many people have "lost" their issued keys, and now for a few locks nobody has a key. Funny, eh?

Because I am into locksport as a hobby, I thought it was a great oppy to join hobby with real-world practical need. I have several Lishis for USA locks (not cars), and well, after a fast search, hit a dead end, so I'm here...

I have other locks that I have only photo'd without the keys, to identify as well, but that can wait until I figure out if this is the appropriate place. One lock at a time, eh? :-)

Thanks!

BE2 = "A" keyway.

Is there a control key for the "J" keyway cores? The control key is the key you use to remove and install the cores in the lock? If so you can remove the core and repin it or even reverse engineer it to figure out if its a common change key that will then work other locks. I do understand however that picking them is just a useful skill that you are wanting to learn so you can use it in these applications but it sounds like the Lishi option is out and picking is your only other option besides drilling them out (if you dont have control keys).

There is no generic control key for any Best core (Except for construction cores). Whenever I set up an SFIC system, it has a unique control key and unique master key.

Yeah me as well but maybe they have a key cabinet on his site with master keys and control keys. Just figuring in case he didn't know he can remove those cores and have them re-keyed.
