Masterlock 140 picks by only 2 pins

hello I am new to lockpicking, and I picked the Masterlock 3 and then ML 140 and while i guess im not positive but it seems like if i set 4th pin then pick 2nd pin it opens. Is it possible just 2 pins are engaged, not all 4?

It is more likely you are lifting up multiple pins with your lockpick profile, so your experience may be deceiving. Try lifting each pin with the lockpick as far away from the pins as possible within the keyway and see if that makes any difference.

Also, look at the key. It should give you clues. If it looks like there are more than 2 places cut in the key, take your pick and lay it alongside the key and see if, as FranklyFlawless stated, the pick's profile is lifting more than one pin in order to liftt the fourth and second pins high enough to reach the shear line.

With Master Lock, either option is likely.

Thank you. I just ordered some top of the key torque wrenches to give me more room. another quick question the picks I have now are .25 thickness, should I get .20 thickness too? thanks again

That depends if you want to pick narrower European keyways in the future. North American keyways are generally wider, so that will be enough for you to deal with most Master Lock pin-tumbler mechanisms at the moment.
