Don't know if it is appropriate to call myself new at any thing. I am 72 years old and am just learning how to pick, rekey, repair et cetera. I took the Thomson Education Direct course and was very pleased with it. A fellow locksmith recommended that I get on this site to learn more about the locksmithing business.
Well here I am... Now the fun begins.

Micheal,
I am not entirely sure if you are the oldest member we have, but you most certainly are one of the older members.
I am extremely pleased to welcome you to Lockpicking 101, and I hope that your time here is enjoyable as well as educational.

Just wanted to say hello to everyone. I've just got a set of SouthOrd picks (talked wifey into getting them for me as my xmas pressie ) and am looking forward to getting started.
I'd looked at some picks a couple of months ago and fancied giving it a shot but never got around to it. 2 weeks ago, I managed to lock my keys in the house and ended up calling out a locksmith who, suprisingly, gave me quite comprehensive details about how the lock worked and what he was doing. This rekindled my interest and I found this great site.
I'm kinda hoping that once I've learned a lot more about picking, I could run a part-time locksmith business. My current day job would allow me to be on call as and when required. I have quite a few questions about the business aspect of it, and will post these in the appropriate threads if I can't find the answers using the search function.
I've been reading a lot of information on here, and will continue to do so in the near future. Bye for now.

Well ive been here since june. I never made a introductions post so i figured its better late than never.
In june i made my first set of picks out of windshield wiper metal. I made a few rakes that were terrible and were trashed. I broke the hooks i made in the first week as i was over forcing everything. Since then i have only made a new hook and it has lasted so far. Im looking to pick up a set sometime soon. I really only am looking for a nice set of hooks as raking hasnt really interested me. Ive read as much as i could before i posted and it has paid off as i can now get into all of the locks i own. I hope to be here more and more and i just wanted to properly introduce myself.

Hi All. I'm new to this forum, and new to 'locksmithing' so I'll be the bloke lurking in the threads trying to make sure I dont upset peeps.
Contemplating a career change (at 32) from Telecomms into Locksmithing, and have some concerns about whether I can make a living being a Locksmith. Hopefully I can find reassurance about this move, as I have plans of doing a 3 week course in Feb05, and then jumping into the deep end. I'm off to read some more threads. Cheers!

Hi all. I'm a n00b at this lock picking business. I have a friend who said that lock picking was a lot of fun and recommended this site. I looked over the thread about what lock pick set to buy and where from. Is that slim set really all you need to pick a lock?
