How to card open a door, credit card technique, carding

Postby choudoo » 15 Dec 2004 5:12

Hello,
I was playing around with my lock the other day and got a paper clip stuck in the lock.

have you stopped laughing yet!

Ok. now.. :)

I am planning on throwing the lock away, it is a cheap lock, but I need to gain access to the closet door; one to change the lock and 2) to get more toilet paper (I hope someone answers this post before I run out). Anyways I have tried to slip a plastic card in the door with the hopes of getting it open, but as you can probably tell I have not had success yet.

The plastic card keeps getting suck in the hole.

I am hoping someone can spell out how I can open the door using a plastic card.

My door lock is an american type with a D shaped shaft.

My room door, which works fine, has a W shaped shaft. Will this technique for for it too?

Ok...

1. If it is lockable...and is relativly new...I'm pretty sure it has security against cards (the little thing on the latch that is small, and moves seperatly from the big part). When this is moved in...aka, the door is closed and it is pushed back and the latch is not...the latch then will not be able to retract...it is specifically made to prevent people from carding a door. If it does not have this, and it is an older lock, then you simply slide something in towards the other side of the jam...and pull towards you...it's simple, and you will immediatly know if it will work or not.

2. If it is a closet door...then it should swing out, and if this is the case, it will be very simple to remove the hinge pins and pull of the door. Once the door is off, you should be able to unscrew the door knob from the other side. Once off, just put the door back up and push the hinge pins back in and there ya go ^___^.

Hope this answered something, but if not, I'm sure someone else will answer it in a different way. Oh yeah, if you run out of toilet paper, DO NOT USE COFFEE FILTERS x_x ...I got yelled at by my ex because I used all of the toilet paper to clean up some model paints...and I just wrapped coffee filters around the cardboard thingy....yeah, apparently she didn't realize it until....-trails off-

Yeah, I was actually just thinking about that, BUT... some people will jump the gun and try this...and end up hurting themselves :P . I've seen a guy try and use a screwdriver to "card" a door before...It ended up going into his leg x_x.

Thanks guys.. The coffee filter is not a bad idea, but I will take your advice. ;)

In my lock I just have a D shaped shaft not a -D. The curve part is facing the outside.

Do not get me started on my closet door. The stupid engineerss who design my place in the 70's thought since the closet is soo big, let the door swing inwards and not outwards. I soo wish that it swong outwards; my problem would have been solved with removing the pins.

My problem here is, when I slide the card in, the card is not going straight in but going in towards the striker plate and in the hole. Any ideas on how I can get the card to slide in to hit the shaft and not the striker plate hole. Because of the door frame I have to bend the card almost 90'.

While playing around with my closet door, I am trying the tactics on my room door which has a W shaft. Can this be carded?

I would probably get something a bit more thin than your precious credit cards...and for it toward the striker plat, after all, once it has enough pressure behind it, it will only be able to go towards the latch. (theoretically) Try finding a really thin piece of metal and slide in there. If you are able to paint...and have a hammer, you COULD just pry off the jam (but not the brick molding)...and it will expose the plate, and pretty much make the lock exposed. Easy job there after. But, some people would be scared of this method because they are prying on their freak'n door jam O.o ... -hands you a hacksaw-

if the door opens away from you and has a live bolt you can get a pice of milk carton or mica bend the edge eg.
Image
then using the up turned edge to ease the plastic round the door to push the bolt back eg.
Image
this will work on locks that are in the door and on the back of the door as long as the bolt/latch is not deadbolted.
hope this helps :D

Just a lil bit of knowledge... "carding" a door is called loiding after celluloid which is a common type of plastic credit cards were made of.

z wire

Postby raimundo » 20 Dec 2004 14:20

very nice drawing on the milk carton technique. but if you bend a bicycle spoke or similiar hard wire into a shape similiar to the black line shown for the view of the path of the milk carton, except do not curve the very end , just two 90degree bends, lay this flat against the door beneath the area where the bolt is, slide it into the gap til the short length is able to be rotated into the area where bolt is by rotating the long end out away from the door. now slide the whole thing upwards until the short leg is touching the bolt. slowly press the handle (long leg) back toward the door, while with the knob, you press the door further closed, pull now to open door, press wire push door closed, press wire, until it opens. each time you push the door further closed, the bolt will retract a little, and pressing your Z wire on it will prevent it from springing back out, until it is all the way in and pulling on the door opens it. if there is no trim to sneak under like this, simply put one leg of the wire on the bolt, and turn it to press the bolt in.
Wake up and smell the Kafka!!!
