Help with Lock ID

Called out to a lock change today, where a property management company had lost the keys to a property they wish to place on the market.

Front door had a non BS sashlock with key in back - easily opened but bolts on the door.

Rear door had a 5 lever non curtained sashlock - opened with 2-1 pick.

This door also had a 5 lever deadlock, Red casing, no hardplate, and a chrome 7g curtain. My RB pick was a tight fit for the curtain, but I couldn't get the wire and pick to turn with the curtain ??. The curtain when turned with just the pick went all the way to 12 0'clock. No joy with 2 wires, and tried jigglers (always worth a go) - no joy. I even retrieved a couple of keys off the kitchen side table with my letterbox kit, but these turned out to be outbuilding keys - ah well!

Any ideas on deadlock ID, and thoughts on defeating it ?. Don't particularly want to drill, as the door looks fairly new, plus the deadlock has a reinforcing bar across the keyhole (the type that goes through the door - bar both sides).

Return visit in the morning - may try the windows as I couldn't see any additional security on them.

Yuk mate , there is a number of red locks with curtain, if a 7g lock its 90% certain to have open ended levers on it , it could be an old era , though more likely to be a contractor lock, and some of these can be a pig.

my guess is its probably a contract lock, but if 7g treat as if it has open ended levers , try with 2 wires again as this will be your most effective opening , the profit pick may have more luck with it.

I've the Profit kit on my shopping list for the New Year - along with the Invincible, Legge P&C, and CB 7g pick (another expensive year)

It was a vert tight 7g, had problems moving the wires about !.

Wonder if the gales will blow a plantpot through one of the windows :twisted:

could be an 8g, or a cheap and nasty.

was it an extra long keyhole to normal ? was the pick tight all over or was it just the curtain turning knob that was a tight fit as you can file this slightly.

im confident it will have open ended levers , it may have era , securefast or willenhall/colson levers inside.

Tight fit all round. Tried to file the inside of the curtain to give the RB pick more space, but this didn't work. The wire was catching on the casing as the curtain turned - first time I've experienced this. Key hole didn't appear to be any longer than usual.

I'd say cheap and nasty given the area I was in.

1 hole , drill points given for stump in pm , may be best, but search round windows first, what type of bolt , do you know, if star bolts i can give you drill point for these.

if shoot bolts and on front door , can you not take these bolts off with letterbox kit ???

No letterbox on front door, only on rear !.

Front door full glazed, so jemmy with care !.

Sounds like the Aldrige to me think the code is A-md 5 pretty sure thats 8g keyway.As pinky says swallow your pride and get the drill out got to be better than jemmey!Let us know what it was once its opened.

It'll have to wait until Monday - the Management Agent gave me a couple of other properties to visit today, saying this particular one isn't a priority. It was for me though - it's going to bug me all weekend !.

Thanks for the ideas so far - I'll let you know the outcome on Monday.

Well, finally got around to revisiting this monster today. No need to jemmy the door, or go in via the window - popped it open in a little over 2 minutes using a home made curtain pick (Thanks Chris B).

Took a look at the plate - ERA !. Took it out of the door (nailed in

), and the hardplate had been removed from the outside, no dimples either - filed off ?.

Oh well - job done

Its things like this that make lever locks difficult to tackle at times. Great result and especially with the improvised pick of which i still havent got around to making yet.
Today i saw an imperial bs lock with a greyish hammerite type finish and silver curtain, anyone else seen these ?
