Sears Craftsman No. 90/50 shrouded padlock

Postby pick_maker » 16 Dec 2004 18:55

Buy this lock the next time you visit Sears because it is an interesting challenge. This lock has no shackle spring so there's no tension on the plug. I have been able to pick it infrequently using fly-weight tension and a HPC-style computer generated pick but I would like to pick it consistently as I get the impression there might be mushroom pins in the #2 & #3 spot. Anyone else have experience with this lock?

Thanks

That lock is probably the excellent Abus Diskus 90/50. You can tell for sure if it is made in Germany. Long story short, generally Abus makes one tough lock. I believe the 90/50 is a 5 pin padlock with mushroom pins. The 90/50 I am thinking of looks like a conventional padlock. If the lock is round, it is a Diskus (which comes in either 4 or 5 pins with mushrooms). You can find out a lot more by searching this forum for Abus padlocks.

Yes this is it only Made in China. I can consistently open it using a homemade tension tool that fits snugly in the keyway and apply theee lightest tension. This is easy to do as there's not much plug play- about 1 minute before and after 12 noon.

FYI: this topic is #2 in a Google for 'abus 90/50 padlock'
