How do I make a Jackknife?

Postby Neo » 29 Dec 2004 21:44

I looked around on the forum for answers.
It seems that some people can make it out of wood. *uber cool*
Some people can make it out of metal and so forth. *Cool too*

But.. I don't understand the metrics and so forth on how they compiled a piece of art.

Does anyone have videos on how to make a jackknife?

Also if someone has read this and decided to make on themselves or has already, is there a way to make picks for it and change them within the jackknife? Such as taking out the diamond and replacing it with a rake and then putting it in your pocket and walking away from the diamond piece.

hmm...

so basically the quick and simple way is to grind down giant swiss army knive and keep a hairpin on you.

ok then! sounds fun.

Look around what you have and what you can do with it. That's how most jackknives are born.
However, this is a very individual process with a lot of trying involved and therefore you cannot expect an exact drawing or a step-by-step video with reproducable results.

What you can expect are ideas.

You didn't write about your skills and tools. Are you a student with hammer and file or a skilled metal worker? Depending on that, you may have no other choice than to use existing materials (like swiss army knives) or you might be able to plan and construct freely.

I would suggest doing a search for instructions on grinding you own picks. Then I would make just the picking portion without the handle. Once you have done that drill a hole in the bottom of the pick, and find an old swiss army knife. Take out the blades, and then replace them with picks. You may have to be creative with the tension wrench though.
