e bay lockpicking course

has anyone seen the lockpicking course going around on ebay? i got it and was very impressed. 10 videos for £80. by locksmithschool.com (i think) covers everything from picking, masterkeying, impresioning, safe dial combo changing, rekeying. however video two did cut out just before he showed you how to drill a lock (perhaps this was pinkies influence ) its more geared towards americans but still well worth it. the guys van was bigger than my shop!!! for any newbies check it out before waisting hundreds on a crappy course.

I'm not sure if this is a legit testimony or spam. $150 seems a bit steep considering that the information is available for free and not complicated enough to require videos.

Not all courses are crappy and just a quick look around the forum will help you determine the good ones. Whilst i like the idea of learning from a video i cant see the point of buying one when all the information is on this site for free anyway.

most of whats available on ebay is really naff , the odd gem you will probably find here for free.
self help videos are an ok concept , and for non commercial pickers is fine , to compete commercially and to have any chance of success in the uk locksmith industry you cannot afford not to invest in education.

you start with the basic courses, and move on to high profile MLA and ALOA courses, i learnt more in a day with Martin Newton on vault opening than any video, text book or site could teach me, but it cost me.
But then why should he give away years worth of knowledge and skill , that cost him an arm and a leg to learn for free , you pay for it or you dont learn it.

too many still think they have the right to call themself a locksmith , following a bit of practice and a few videos and a bit of training, to become a locksmith takes years, a lifetime, not 10 minutes, too many are trying to do it for free, they want it for nothing and dont want to put in the time , study and practice needed.

for hobby pickers , videos are a fine info source, for those wanting to work as a commercial locksmith, you wont do it on the cheap , if this is what you want take a plumbing course.

im not saying videos are a substitute for training, i just find it easier to see with my own eyes rather than read a book. as would many newbies. something like master keying a building or changing a safe dial combo can be very confusing put into words but with this site AND the videos things become clear in the mind and once its in your head it makes practice a lot more fun and enjoyable. and i did say it was for newbies, it seems if anyone new asks a question they get their head bitten off for not knowing the answer, not everone has 15 years experience or 35 grand to invest in training. I just want to learn at my own pace and ENJOY IT! id never do a job i couldnt handle and id never consider my self to be a locksmith. As a tree surgery instructor i still bought books + videos even though with my knowlage and experience i didnt need them but there is always something different or some little trick that makes life easier for you. videos are fun and much easier to sit in front of picking a lock rather than a print out of the mit guide on your lap.

Inmanator ,it seems you mayve got the wrong end of the stick here,nobody is biting your head off for lack of knowledge ,on the contrary(spell check?) they are trying to be of assistance and stop you throwing your money away.Ive not seen the video youre talking about so im not qualified to comment on wether its good or bad,but all the guys are saying is read more of the previos posts/stickys and perhaps youll learn more,for free!. When i was learning nothing like 101 exsisted(not sure computers exsited) We couldnt ever put a question out to hundreds of locksmiths and get a number of different answers within minutes.
If you want to learn how to reset a combination lock ring me,pm me or simply ask on the forum,no one will take the piss ,theyll tell you how to do it.And itll cost you nothing and the only video youll have to buy is Pamela Andersons or QPRs greatest goals(short one!)
Through this forum your afingertip away fromtalking to guys like Chris Belcher,Al,PinkySidpick(sorry to those ive missed)you dont NEED a video.
So lighten up and ask a few questions.Im not having a go and its up to you which way you look for your tuition but dont knock these fellas theyre trying to help!
