this is a question involving lockpicking obviously!?

I know this is a noob question and also i think this is the right place to post it. ive tried looking day after day for the answer but i have found nothing. im new to lockpicking and im trying to pick a lock(obviously).
My problem is that ive tried putting the tension wrench in many areas and i really dont know were to actually put it. This may be the reason i cant open anything cause i have fairly decent tools and i dont think that is the problem. when i put it above the keys were there is space it leaves less room for the pick to go in and have full control. if i leave it in the little gap just before pick one, im not sure if there is enough tension in the back of the blug.

Also, i dont really know how far to put the wrench in the lock.

I have a few different tension wrenches, mostly I use the medium sized one that will fit at the bottom of the keyway, with the pins on the top. it's fairly slip and allows the pick in the keyway as well. for some locks I have to use the fatter torque and place it in very shallow right in front of the pins, leaving the keyway on bottom completely open for the pick. generally the slim torque inserted in fully at the bottom works, and it's not too hard to work around. and about tension, all you need is enough to make a pin bind.

put the pick in without the torque in the lock, feel the spring of the pins, then apply tension. feel them start to bind, then begin trying to set them.

it took me a while to get my first one, be patient. and make sure you read the basics, the MIT guide to lockpicking is good, and it's on this site.

You said you searched for days and didnt find out where to put your tension wrench? ..................the internet might help in this search....*Hint:type lockpicking and click Search...its kinda hard but you will get used to it.

It doesn't really matter where you put the tension wrench, as long as you leave enough room to work with your pick. As for how deep you're putting it in, tension wrenches don't really go that deep, so I don't know what you're using for a wrench. If you do put it on the side with the pins, don't let the wrench touch the first pin, it could interfere with your picking.

I knew this kid back in high school who swore up and down he could pick locks. I handed him a tension wrench and a hook pick one day and he shoves the tang of the wrench into the keyway beneath the pins and started scraping at the bottom of the shell with the hook. I nearly peed my pants laughing at that.

Hmm, Where to put your tension wrench? It all depends on your keyway and what type of tool you are using. Just put it in far enough at the top or bottom to get a good bite and don't touch the pins. Just remember very very light tension.

It was nothing like a judgement call on tension placement - this guy shoved the handle of the wrench all the way underneath the pins. It was a Master 150 padlock, maybe a spool or two but a wide open keyway. VERY funny.
