I bought one of these the other day and have picked it a couple times but something about it seems strange to me. I think some of the pins are mushroom or some other shape. They will frequently "false set" and the cylander will rotate slightly but will still be locked. The only other possibility I can think of is the driver pins get stuck extremely easily, but that doesnt explain the slight rotation of the cylander I get. Does anyone know about this lock and the pins?

Ah, I'm reading up on the lock now and I see that it has a spool pin. Interesting, I guess I answered my own question. Any tips?

As you know, the lock has spool pins. The plug rotates ever so slightly because your setting some of the pins. It's all about the feel of the lock. everytime you set another pin you feel it moves slightly.

tips, yea, when you get fed up with it, don't throw it. sheetrock is a pain to fix.

as I"m sure you're find out by now with help of the search function, spool pins aren't all that tricky. the plug will move a little when you set a spool pin in the middle but will not turn fully. to find which spool isn't correctly set, use light torque, place your finger at the end of the wrench as to exagerate its movement to your senses, an push lightly on each pin. when the torque pushes back when you push on a pin, let up a little on the wrench, and set that pin deeper. rinse and repeat.

If I've missed anything someone fill in. and yes, spool pins have caused me to repair sheetrock. just the first time though, it's east to get the hang of.

How about the Master 15? I haven't been able to open mine yet. I think it is just because of the variation of pin heights though. Thanks for the info on 140.

I have one of those huge suckers. It gives me trouble sometimes too, but I think it is just the pin depths. this lock almost feels like it has spools but Master does not put spools in their laminated padlocks.
