padlock shackle

Postby rickal » 10 Jan 2005 20:05

Where can I find replacement padlock shackles? I have 3 heavy duty padlocks with 2.5" shackles which had to be cut unfortunately, because the keys were misplaced. They are just like the Hurd or the Master heavy duty padlocks with the locking bolt and 2 steel balls to lock the shackle in place. The 1's I have are the Ace brand. Very easy to disassemble but, I need new shackles and the are good as new. I believe if I can get the same ball type locking shackle and the appropreate shackle length, It does not matter who the manufacturer is. If anyone out there can help or advise, I'm very grateful.

ive never heard of anyone getting replacement shackles. if their good locks just keep the bases to practice picking and buy new padlocks. itd probably be easier to get a new padlock and possably cheaper too but this is just me.

Read his post again.

He said he WANTED to get them back to their original condition. Nothing was said about wishing to practice picking them!

P.S. If you have worn a thong in your past, please don't share that with me. I haven't even had my coffee yet.

He was, and probably STILL is trying to find a shackle.

Let someone that can answer his question reply.

If they aren't a "Name Brand" padlock you may not have much luck finding a new shackle. American/Master sells replacement shackles, many of their padlocks are designed with replacable shackles as a feature. Abus and Best also make padlocks that can use a variety of shackle lengths for different applications.

You will probably find it easier to take your locks to a local locksmith or a wholesaler and let them find you a new shackle if one is available.

Actually, most Ace brand padlocks are made by the same supplier/manufacturer. Depending on the particular lock you have, your local Ace store might have a pinning kit for their padlocks and that pinning kit might have extra shackles (they are included).

If they don't have one, see if they're willing to order one.

But again, it totally depends on the lock.

OR...you could take the old shackles to a good welding shop and they could weld them up to look like they were never cut.
To pick... or not to pick... That is the question.
also, if you pick your nose in public...please use light tension!
