hi there,
i must say that before i begin, i am a virgin to this lockpicking/locksmith stuff, so please do excuse me if i mess up a word, phrase, or get something wrong.
i'm in college in live in a dorm building with about 200 other kids. we all have the same deadbolt locks on our doors and i was just fooling around with mine, and it looked like it would be really easy to pick the deadbolt, is this possible??
the brand is a "BEST" with the numbers 66 above the best and a "AD46" below the Best.
is there any way to pick these deadbolts?? i am just curious (don't worry, it's not like i'm gonna break into someone's room, but this whole topic has always interested me.) i just kinda wanna see if i can 'beat the system', that's all.
anyway, does anybody have any suggestions by just using like kinda normal household stuff or stuff i can get at the hardware store??
any information would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!!!!
alex

DO the following:
read the MIT guide
read it again
and again
Buy practice locks, not your dorms locks
Buy or make tools
practice
practice
*then use the search button

r-e-a-d the MIT guide, and read it multiple times
Buy practice locks, dont use your dorms locks
Make or buy lock picks
Practice
ANd use the search button
Is that simpler?

Yes it is possible, but most likely is not the lock for you to start on, especially without proper tools. The MIT guide that was refered to is a lockpicking guide that is a bit confusing the first time you read it. I would definately buy a kwikset deadbolt to start with. As for picks, either order them, or make them. Do a search on this site for Pyro's video, that should help a lot with the making them approach. As for finding the MIT guide, do a google search and you should find that in no time. Hope this helped. Good-luck.
Lock picking is an art, not a means of entry.

I'd deter yourself from attempting to pick the lock.
Its most likely out of your league for a beginner.
Start out with a Master Lock and practice on that until you get the hang of it. If you have a friend with an apartment, ask him if you can pick it, but don't go around picking the dorm locks...it raises suspicion, and the last thing you need is Campus Security bagering you about stolen items and your M.O.
On a side note about the dorm lock: Its probably an SFIC...meaning you need a special tension wrench. So start small with a padlock, and READ as much as you can in the FAQ section of the forums. Then, start asking.
And don't forget to practice.
