Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

BKS Lock Info

Postby feend » 15 Jan 2005 19:04

Hello,

I have been using this as a practice lock for a while. I would like to know more about it, so after searching for it here and else where, ( and not being satisfied w/ the info) I thought I would ask here. :)
Any info is welcome and appreciated, but I am more interested in what kind of pins might be in there and the relative difficulty in picking it.
Thanx for your time,

Feend

I have never herd of BKS. The keyway looks like a Y1 though. Can't offer more than that, sorry.

Thanx, I will see if I can find a Y1 at work and make a key for it.

Hey,

BKS is a german company. It belongs to the Gretsch-Unitas Group.
The Gretsch-Unitas group makes everything for doors and windows.
BKS is the company that makes the locks.

Thats everything i know about it.

Their web site: www.g-u.de

Appears to be German to me, but it seems that my browser was forwarded to "language 19" automatically
(Maybe it's in English, French etc. for you)

Tried to locate your specific lock, but then I got stuck to some interesting pictures. Have a look at this nightmare

BKS nightmare

I wonder if the aluminum foil tape gambit described in H2K would fit the bill for that lock. I have no idea where you get the key blanks for those mind you.

WOW  That thing looks mean! I wonder if the others have seen this bad boy?

Thanx, I will try to figure out what's in my practice lock after I check out the rest of that site. My German skills are nonexistant. :(

On one of the backsides, there are 2 spring loaded buttons. I beilive these would alow me to seperate the two locks. Any input as to how this works? ( Do I need a key to do this?)

Thanx again,
Feend

That's how it looks picked (not by me though):

About your BKS lock, yes it's a german company and they make decent locks. They usually employ spool pins. Can be opened with bump keys or if you want to pick it, try raking first until you get to the spool pins and then get out your hook. Light tension and reverse gear to deal with spools.
It's not the tools that open the lock. It's me.

Thanx, to all for the info.

PickPick, where would you place my BKS lock in the difficulty scale? It takes a while, ( I rake then 1/2 diamond pick the last pin or two) but I usually get it.

Thanx again for your time,
