I picked a very simple lock. i acutally took it out of the container and like cut it up so that i could use to as a visual so that i could see what i was doing but now i need to move on to harder locks. any ideas as to where i could get some locks that would be good to use? (i'm still only a beginner)

dude, you may want to read the rules thread and lurk on the forum for a while - search for "practice locks" etc, there's lots of advice here.

try for a schlage deadbolt as a start.

You're not speakin our language quite yet, you need to learn a little more. Was it a Cap'n Crunch prize lock you picked? With what tools? What technique did you use, did you rake it, did you go pin by pin, thermic lance? Kwikset is a good one to start with, they're real easy. I'm impressed that you were able to cut a lock away, that's a good start. Good luck to you.

sorry - yes - kwikset is the default newbie lock - I only skimmed the original post and thought that he was after something more challenging....

That kwikpick set or whatever they call it is such an advertising scam. They used to send out spam emails to everyone and his brother advertising it (OPEN AND LOCK IN SECONDS!) When really its just a rake and a tension tool. It might be a better idea to pick yourself up a good set of picks (Maybe from SouthOrd if you're just starting out) just to experience a wide variety of 'feelings' and such things as you pick. Its always good to diversify!

Good luck with your pickings!

Read the MIT guide, its very basic stuff really(nothing you can't really figure out on your own i'd think). It turns out you want to go pin by pin, but its your showing off raking/scrubbing is ok.
