Hello all, As this is not really european locks etc thought I would move here.
Well the Feb meet was the usual success, actually got locks and picks out.
A not too bad view and beer flowed all night.
It was decided last night to hold the next meeting towards the GUILDFORD area, just off Junction 10 M25 with our host WALLABY.
(There is a pub next door!!).
Wallaby suggested a weekend date, which will be sorted out in the near future.
It would be good for more people to attend as the interest is there and Toomush will astound you with his magic tricks (look into the eyes, not around the eyes, the eyes - your under).
So the call goes out, a month in advance, this will be a full on lockpicking by day bit of beer by day and then few beers at night!
All who are interested there is a close main line station which is 40mins from london. Bring tools - locks which cause grief etc...
More the merrier and hopefully we can get some sort of 'club or evil world dominating organisation' sorted out

No wren birds or jeans!! (only kidding!)

It was another good meet ... not sure what the other customers thought as we clamped the vice to the pub table and started picking locks but hey, you have to play somewhere :-)

I'm ready to host the next day of picking and am suggesting around the 19th Feb (i am flexible based on public opinion) .. its a saturday. I live 5 mins from junction 10 of the M25, I have a workshop and a pub next door. Also a mainline station to London Waterloo (40 mins - unless toomush is driving then it will be 20). The station is 2 mins walk from my house.

Plan would be to turn up anytime, play with locks, lunch and beers, play with locks, into town for more beers ...

any calls coming in that night can be attended by a reasonable number of drunken locksmiths :-)

More the merrier and bring those nasty locks - somebody there will now how to open them (especially 'dark horse' Sid) and if we cant pick it then toomush 'the magician ' can make it disappear !

Let me know your thoughts guys ... (Cumscrote - you need to log on more often !)

I can also arrange accommodation with a number at the house and a b+b down the road ...

Im game on depending on baby toomush duties that may arrive between now and then. pick a few locks and getting a few beers in sounds good.

Well theres three, (mrs toomush having the last word!!) anyone else brave enough to join our band of merry picking men!
Can't say enough about these meetings, there a laugh and were not all lock jedi's (very far from it, well toomush uses the force!) and the more brains the better. if your not in the trade and just doing this for a laugh and own a few picks brought of the net - come along cause you will enjoy the 'gucci' tools and if you reply to Wallaby, Toomush or me we can give you a hands on - might make your mind up into going into locksmithing as some of the course prices may put people off.
Its not a training course - well a beer drinking training course! but when people around you have got the tools you will learn alot quicker and were all mad keen. Bring any home brew tools as these always go down well.
So thats it really, Wallaby has final say on the dates (our host) and hope we can get a few more in on this.

I have to agree sid and a lot of ideas are formed over a few drinks and lock chats. How you getting on with that banham ? any cunning ideas to defeat the so and so yet ? The thing i think most newbie would get form these meetings is the chance to try some of the tools that are maybe not available or affordable to all. Trying wallabys rb curtain pick was nice and seeing some of the others has cetainly put some ideas in my head to adapt them for my own uses.
So anyone up for a feb meet let us know in this thread and lets let this thing grow.

multi lock inner pin pick mate, but unfortunately sighted as I could watch the pins, Don't recon you could pick it manually, might be wrong, there is no feed back going to have a play with impressioning with the foil... mmm good lock, we will not be defeated!!

Yeah i did it by being able to see the pins through the side but not by feeling or feedback. The foil still could be a solution though.

Hi guys

Read the posts and sounds like a pretty good idea. Dont know how much Ill be able to bring to the meet as I having only been picking for a couple of years but I do know a host of non destructive opening methods and would love to share/learn more with other "bona - fide" locksmiths.

Just one question though, are we not worried that maybe the wrong kind of person could attend this sort of thing. Please believe me Im not trying to be awkward here just wondered whether this is a concern?

Im sure the wrong sort of person would soon be sussed out. I already knew of a few of the people before the last meets and know they were police checked because of the course they had attended and only one didnt do that course. Between the few from the last meeting lets just say we have a few police connections so it shouldnt be a problem.

Would it be ok for someone with my level of skill to join in on the fun then? Not sure whether it would be the whole day obviously since never met any of you before but sounds right up my street.

If you need any references or history etc. from me then I can provide.

Any level of skill is welcome its not an elite group or anything but more like a group or like minded individuals. We have a few beers and a social too and share ideas and tips about locks,lockpicking and locksmithing and some of sids "views".

Sorry I missed the last meeting, it sounded fun. I was back in Scotland for holidays so couldn't make it. I'm not sure if I'll be at the next meet up - Guildford is a bit far (3 hours each way from Cambridge), I'll need to see how busy I am.

Picking is going well but I was watching the German Lockpicking Championship at the CCC (http://www.ccc.de/congress/2004/) in Berlin when I was over there for Christmas, and I think I have a fair bit to go. I can now pick my Yale 5 pin with two spools, so maybe I should get an X5 to make sure I don't get too cocky :-)

One thing from the CCC an apparently really good talk on lockpicking and other physical security:

You would have loved the last meet sj with wallaby clamping vices to pub tables and us all picking lever locks to try various picks, barmaid gave us some funny looks though :wink:

Yes, it sounded good. I would like to try lever lock picking at some point, but it is pricey, particularly with how many picks you need to cover a decent range of locks. Maybe one of these days. At the moment I'm trying my hand at combination safe cracking, which is a lot of fun.

I,ll come along too if I may. Got to book the time off of work but will make every effort as i wanted to go to the january one but couldn,t!
Just had a BIG spend up on kit. (safe ventures etc.) Just got to learn how to use it now!
