This is my 2nd post. Been doing a LOT of reading here. But nothing about what I've run into with this Schlage. I'm new it picking, but I've got 3 Kwikies that I can rake and pick pin at a time. I've opened maybe 6 or 7 different padlocks. Some took some time, BUT, this Schlage is a Keyed Entrance Ultima, & I just can't beat it. Light tension on the wrench & picks or hard. I just can't read it. Sometimes it just feels like all pins are locked or frozen in place. Sometimes, some seem to set. I was thinking maybe it had a security pin or pins, & tried setting a bit higher. (I'm new at this & haven't run into these pins yet. or am I now?) Sometimes, some pins seem to set, while others seem frozen. I've even tryed to vary the tension while pin picking & rakeing. (it's an F-series) The Kwikies I can open right or left handed. I'm trying to learn and get the feel with both hands and at odd angels. I'm using southord picks but, got some Labs & Petersons comming. One pin sets low & the 1 one behind it sets (I'm thinking) higher than my hook can lift it. The key #63867.
Sorry if I missed this, if it's someplace I missed. Everyting on this sight don't work with web-tv. AND!! Thank You!!!

Where in PA are you?
Do a search for Bogota rake for a pick that may help you. Have you tried "bouncing" your tension while raking?

Possible you may have spools..... but I think you are at the stage in the hobby where you realize the skill/talent it takes to excel. Look at this as a kind of limited time plateau, use this time to really focus on your sense of touch, and your patience. You may find you need to play with the tension alot more (better machining tolerances require more precision on the wrench). You may find you need to be able to feel lighter movements in the pins etc.
Good luck, sounds like you are doing fine. Just keep working on it and dont give up.
Chuck

HELLO!! fellow PA.er. I live in BU-T-FULL down-town New Stanton-T-pike exit 8. A GREAT place for gas & eats, but thats about it.
THANK YOU!!! much about that pick I'll be checking out when I'm done here. BUT! can you tell me a bit more about the bouncing? I've bounced (or try to) the rake (even tried to bounce the hook, useing it as a rake). You think maybe smaller picks? Even when useing the key, it's kindda like force it a bit, then WAM it turns very easy. Could it have a burr? I mean, it is a new lock.----T/Y

T/Y Chuck!
The Kwiks are like, I can open em up while watching tv & not really pay (MUCH) attention to them. Is the Schlage REALLY that much harder? GAWD, whats a Med. like. LOL's
ALSO, do you seem to lose some feeling useing light long ten. wrenches? I thought I'd get more feeling from them holding them at the far end, but I seem to get a better feeling from a homemade hex key.

To vary the tension you vary the pressure on your tension wrench. Varying it rapidly with a slight pressure difference seems to work welll for me. I like shorter stiff wrenches, but thats personal preference. When you have something that works, practice with it, and make it yours.

HEY CHUCK! HEY EVERYONE!!!
I JUST POPED THAT PUPPY!!!
Chuck, after reading your post, I got it back out & just took my time & concentrated on feeling the wrench. And it just went POP!! Now I must tell you, I'm feeling pretty good right now. I've had about a pint of Jack Danels. I noticed one other time with the Kwik's, during a similer night of Mr. D that they opended a LOT easyer. HEY, maybe if I could do a 5th of the JD I could open a Med. If I was a locksmith going on a lockout & needed JD to open anything, Do you think a cop would understand???

I haven't tried the tension wrench fast as in bounceing. Never thought of it. I've done it slow, but will give fast a try.
THANK YOU ALL!!!! for all the help.

When the Core is removed, does the lock disengage? or is the lock easily opened once removed? and how hard is it to put the core back in?
Sorry for so many questions.
Thanks in advance,

maybe the relaxation and the likelihood that you take your time that is induced by alcohol increases your success. Maybe try to reproduce that feeling without it, since it would be a terrible thing to be dependent on it to pick.

I KNOW what your saying, but its hard to reproduce the "??I don't care??" feelings the alcohol gives you. If you know what I mean. It's really hard to believe & explaine the reason, but, I can open them (& with more feeling) easyer when drinking. NOT DRUNK!!! just feeling good. Like it's easyer or more RELAXING?? Not rushed, or you don't care as much, & poof!! they open right up for me.
You know, If liquor's a crutch, Jack Daniel's must be the electric wheelchair. (ALL in LOL's)
THANKS!!!!
