New to picking, still working on my first lock. it's a kwikset. i'm getting pretty good by going through and setting each pin individually, but when i try to rake the lock i rarely have success. i try varying the pressure on my tension wrench, but that doesn't seem to help either. what's my deal?

raking wont work on all locks, it's success varies, maybe you are to used to single pin picking? paractice makes pickers(or rakers in your case)

Raking, though sometimes faster, does indeed take some practice to learn how to do it effectively. It's good that you're learning single pin picking first. Basicaly you should expose yourself to as many techniques and picks as possible when you're starting, then choose what you like and specialize in it. I use one hook, and one rake. With these two picks (and a large variety of tension wrenches) I can open almost any lock I happen accross.

Computer picks man, i cant justify computer picks for jobs and the such, pin by pin all the way. But after 3 mins or so if the lock isnt open. I stop and pull out the pick gun. The Majestic gun is so beatiful, it must never come out.
