 Someone please help me! I lost my keys to my padlock on my shed. I can't get in the door. It's a shame. I don't know what to do. I can't afford to call a locksmith. I just want to get the old one off. By either taking it apart or picking the lock but I don't know how to do either of those things. If someone could tell me how to do either of those things i'd appreciate it greatly. My e-mail is edited by Romstar, no e-mail requests

First of all, requests for email are against the TOS for this forum.

If you have no interest in taking up lockpicking as a hobby or purchasing a set of picks (by your post I assume you own no picks), I would suggest one of the following three things:

1) Purchase a package of padlock shims from a website such as SouthOrd.com. They are slim pieces of metal that slip inside the lock and can open it instantaneously. Note that these will only be effective on locks with enough clearance space to fit shims (most padlocks you would buy for your shed are openable with padlock shims)

2) Use bolt cutters to remove the padlock from your shed door. Simple enough, but the lock is unusable after this (You don't have the key anyway, so why not)

3) If the screws to your shed door are visible, you can unscrew them and access the shed like this. This is not meant to be a longterm solution, but if you absolutely need access to your shed and cannot use any of the previous two methods, you can do this until you find where you put your key.

Hope these help! Good luck getting back into your shed!

Location ? type of padlock ?

If you have no idea at al and dont mind "taking it apart" as you say, borrow an angle grinder and destroy the thing or call a locksmith.

hinges

Postby raimundo » 26 Jan 2005 12:02

are the hinge pins removable, you might be able to take the door off and get at the padlock screws that way. You really should tell us exactly what it says on the padlock, manufacturers name, and any model numbers. there is no generic answer. The answer is specific to the lock.

Tools question.....

Postby The Wanderer » 19 Feb 2005 20:29

There are some interesting locksmithing tools on eBay right now, and I was wondering if anyone knew how useful they would be to someone considering locksmithing as a sideline.
One of the seller doesn't even know what the items are. The multi tool looks interesting though. I have no idea what they are worth. How high should I go if I decide purchase one or all of the items?

Have I mentioned recently how much I hate not being able to edit my posts. If not then....I hate that I can't edit my posts.
Maybe we can have another go at letting us edit again. Just kick out the guys that delete their entire posts for no good reason. Why should everyone have to pay because of a couple of DUMB *****!?
There! I said it and I'm glad I said it!
