Extractors

Postby Itry » 26 Jan 2005 15:15

I have been collecting vairious locks to start practicing on and have found an old electrical cabinet handle with a broken double sided key in it,
and I will be trying make an extractor pick. I have not found a topic on this, am I trying to get over the top of the key or hook the side of it? any help or ref to old posts would be great. :?

Try and go over the key and pull it back with the bitting - my Majestic extractor is a single sided arrowhead design - you could try filing down a junior hacksaw blade and use the teeth to grab the bitting.

Remember smooth side to the lock jaggy bit to the key - get in wrong and you've got a stuck extractor (not that I've done that  )

Is nothing idiot proof near me?

i got an idea, might not work but here goes

make 2 really thin short hooks and use them like tweezer or chop-sticks to drag the key out, but try to get the hooks locked onto something thats on the key

Yep I can agree with that - I cut the inside of my mouth by sticking it in my mouth. Those HPC fellas really grip

When I'm working, I learnt not to put tools down (they get nicked or lost that way) so if I have a couple of picks out at the same time the unused one gets kept in my mouth.

If I want to use a pick as a toothpick I find that the angled pick from an electric pickgun is ideal (take it out of the pickgun first though)

It would take a long time to reach the level of Pinky's shiny collection. I jest you not when I say he's even got two Safeventures curtain picks, one set up for a right sided lock and one for a left!
