Pins that dont want to settle

Postby Conspiracy » 8 Jan 2005 19:45

Hallo all.

I just managed to open my first lock using a screwdriver and a safety pin (its a 4 pin lock).
But I just wonder... I have great problems with the second pin (counting from the opening). No matter what I try to do its very hard to get it to stay down.

Could someone tell me what I can do or what I am doing wrong?

Thanks.

You arent setting the pins in the correct order. Dont assume front to back, or back to front....... find the pin that binds first and set it. Then the next pin with the most resistance etc.... until you have the plug turning.

Also, paperclips bend, so even if that pin is binding you may be bending the paperclip to much to push it. try using a safety pin with the tip filed off. Also if your getting into picking you should either buy, or make a real lock pick, and tension wrench to help you get better.

Thanks for the tips guys!
Yes, I am looking for a picking set, actually I have found one, I should just order it =)

Also.. I am using a bent safety pin and not a paperclip.
"using a screwdriver and a safety pin". See? ; )

I just ordered my first picking set yesterday but had an attempt with a bent safety pin with the end clipped and filed back and a homemade torque wrench made from a metal skewer which has been bent, hammered and filed.

Have had no luck on a largeish new 6 pin padlock, with at best only two of the pins sounding like they've clicked into place. I think the safetypin isn't strong enough as it bends too easily and frankly I feel like a teenager rummaging around in unfamiliar pants.

On a positive note - I opened a 4-wheel safe lock last night after over 4 hours of manipulation :) My first ever successful win against a lock of any kind.

Just for the record kodierer......Conspiracy wasnt using a paper clip he said he was using a saftey pin.....also for a starting set i suggest southord. Either a 7p. or 11p. for starters...www.southord.com
